Come learn how to sew on a Janome sewing machine! This workshop is a recommended prerequisite for my other machine sewing classes, you’ll learn about fabric, sewing tools, basic machine maintenance, and you will make a zipper pouch for your sewing tools, pencils, or makeup.

Please bring a notepad and a camera (your phone is fine).  All materials are provided. Bring your own machine if you have one. Don’t buy anything else yet!

Here’s What We’ll Cover

● Sewing Room Safety

● Introduction to Basic Tools

● Fabric 101 – the basic concepts of how fabric behaves

Introduction to the Sewing Machine: how it works & basic maintenance (this means cleaning!)

● Threading the machine & bobbin

● Stitching of straight and curved lines on computerised sewing machines.

● Cutting out & marking

● Making your first project:  You’ll leave Absolute Beginners with a lined zipper pouch you have made yourself!

Here’s what else you need to know:

The workshop runs on the third Saturday of the month, from 10.00 – 4.00 with a break for lunch.

Bring a packed lunch (there’s a fridge and a microwave available), or you can buy from one of the takeaways nearby on Gorgie Road.

Tea, Coffee water and biscuits are provided.

There’s a maximum of 4 students per class. Bring a friend!
